PM orders stern action against gambling and narcotics

PID/File PhotoPrime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the law enforcement agencies to take stern action against gambling, narcotics and terrorism, an Awami League (AL) source closed to the PM said.
Hasina, who is also ruling AL president, instructed to continue the ongoing drive against illegal casino operation, the source told Bangla Tribune.
According to the source, Hasina called the chiefs of the law and security forces to her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Thursday (Sept 19) a day before she left for New York on Friday (Sept 20) to attend the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
At Ganabhaban, she held a several-hour long meeting with the top security officials.
During the meeting, the PM directed the law enforcement agencies' chiefs to take stern measures against casino operation, gambling, drugs, extortion and terrorism, the source said.
In a major crackdown, Rapid Action Battalion started busting illegal casinos in Dhaka on Sept 18 with arresting nearly 200 people including ruling party affiliate's leaders.
