Ensure no Rohingya in electoral roll: CEC tells officials

"Sometimes the Election Commission [EC] faces criticism for the activities of a few [officials]. Be careful to carry out your duties," he said while addressing the third annual general meeting of Bangladesh Election Commission Officers' Association at the EC's office in Dhaka's Agargaon on Friday (Sept 20).
Citing nowadays the EC gets all necessary facilities, the CEC directed the election officials to exercise their full authority in performing their duties.
He also instructed them to be prepared for the next local government election without disclosing at any possible date for the polls.
"The EC, too, conduct the local government elections... I have no knowledge yet on when it's going to happen. You (officials), be prepared by then," he said.
Speaking of the smart national ID distribution, Huda criticized the France company that is implementing the project.
"They (France company) have been creating trouble for us since 2017... They sought access to our (EC) database which we refused," he said.
The project would continue even if the France company leaves Bangladesh, said the CEC adding, the smart national ID are now being manufactured locally.
Election Commissioners Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam, and Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury and EC Secretary Md Alamgir Hossain, among others, were present.
