Hospitals admit 615 dengue patients in 24 hours

FOCUS BANGLAA total of 615 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24 hours till Tuesday (Sept 17) morning.

Of them, 198 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 417 in districts outside Dhaka.     

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said in a statement that the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 2,485.

The DGHS puts the death toll for dengue at 68 so far this year. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 156, so far.

As many as 993 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,492 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, it said.

Between Jan 1 and Sept 17 (Tuesday), a total of 82,454 dengue cases have been reported in the country.

Among those admitted, a total of 79,766 have been released from hospitals after treatment.
