Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the Awami League leaders and workers to work for fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people by keeping up their confidence and trust to take root in the party.

“Bangladesh Awami League has been able to earn confidence and trust of the people as they know their lot is changed when the party comes to power,” she said.

Hasina, also the AL President, said this while delivering her introductory speech at a meeting of the Awami League (AL) Central Working Committee at Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Saturday (Sept 14), state news agency BSS reports.

“You’ll have to keep up the confidence and trust of the people and work for fulfilling their hopes and aspirations,” she said.

The prime minister said the grassroots leaders and workers will have to work with that sincerity. “Then, we could reach our desired goal and build Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu,” she said.

The AL president simultaneously directed the party leaders and workers to play a more responsible role towards the country and nation.

“Every leader and worker of the party will have to keep in mind that they have a huge responsibility towards the country and nation and they’ll have to play that responsible role,” the premier said.

She went on saying: “Others who formed parties by grabbing the state power and spreading leftover of the power have no obligation … they come to power to only change their own fate.”

The AL president said the country witnesses development when the party which makes struggle and sacrifice and works for the people and independence is achieved due to its (party) movement remains in power.

“On the other hand, no development of the country is made and the fate of the people is not changed when the party which stays in power illegally and violating constitution,” she said.

The prime minister said Bangladesh witnessed unprecedented successes in the last one decade since 2009 and it has been recognised internationally.

“We’ve brought down the poverty rate to 21 percent and attained 8.1 percent GDP growth … we’ve been able to keep inflation under control and the people of the country are getting its benefits,” she said.

“Our goal is to change the lots of the grassroots people and free them from poverty and we’re working to achieve the goal … we have to go far and materialise the dream of the Father of the Nation,” she added.

The AL president said Bangladesh is maintaining good relations with all countries of the world by pursuing the Bangabandhu’s foreign policy -friendship to all, malice to none. “The country is getting its benefits,” she said.

“Bangladesh is now a most attractive place of investment in the world and the entire world is interested about Bangladesh,” she said.

In this connection, the prime minister briefly highlighted her government’s successes in various sectors including agriculture, education, health, food security, nutrition and employment generation for the youths and their training.

Sheikh Hasina said her government has contained terrorism, militancy and fire terrorism with iron hands, while the drive against narcotics is going on and it will continue.

In this regard, the premier thanked the countrymen for extending cooperation to the government. “The law enforcement agencies are also playing a responsible role to this end … so, I’m very hopeful that the country will advance further,” she said.

The AL president said Bangladesh Awami League was formed by the Father of the Nation. “So the party will have to be strengthened from the grassroots, and preparations will have to be made from now on so that its council is held regularly,” she said.
