No official call has been made on dissolving the central committee of Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), says party General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
“Unless a final decision is made and implemented, I can’t say anything,” he said on Sunday (Sept 8).
“Awami League’s nomination and parliamentary boards held a joint meeting at Ganabhaban on Saturday (Sept 7),” he added.
A senior Cabinet member, Quader said that dissolving the committee was not one of the many issues discussed during the meeting.
Responding to queries on whether party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given any orders to break off the committee, he said, “Unless a direct organizational order is issued, I won’t say she said it, and I won’t say she didn’t either.”
On whether he had ordered BCL activists to leave the prime minister’s residence, he said, “Many activists come to the PM residence from far away and Chhatra League activists did as well. Why would I ask them to leave?”
Speaking to the media on whether he was satisfied with BCL activities, Quader said, “When they something worthy of praise, I appreciate it.
“But when they do something that hurts the people, I can’t be satisfied and ask them to mend their ways.”
The minister declined to comment on Jatiya Party splitting leadership duties, saying that it was their internal issue.
