The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 10 projects involving a total of Tk 63.26 billion including one to renovate Dhaka-Chattogram four-lane national highway.
The approval came from the ECNEC held at the NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka on Tuesday (Sept 3) with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, reports BSS.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said of the total outlay of Tk 63.26 billion, Tk 53.27 billion will come from the government exchequer while Tk 9.99 million from the own funds of the project implementing organisations. He said the project-Performance based Operations and Strengthening Dhaka-Chattogram National Highway will be implemented at a cost of Tk 7.93 million.
A project-Establishment of Axle Load Control Centres at Entry Points of Goods Transport in the Important Highways under the Roads and Highways Department-will be implemented at a cost of Tk 16.3 billion, he added.
Other projects approved in the ECNEC meeting are upgrading the Kurigram (Daser Hat)-Bhurungamari-Senerhat Land Port Road to national highway (Tk 6.85 billion), expansion of Bhuapur-Tarakandi district highway (Tk 3.07 billion), strengthening the testing system of water (Tk 1.78 billion) and construction of Narsingdi district jail (Tk 3.26 billion), production and preservation of quality potato seeds and ensuring its distribution at farmers’ level (Tk 6.88 billion), expansion of club scouting in primary schools (Tk 3.55 billion), further development of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (Tk 4.51 billion) and conversion of 150MW Sylhet gas turbine power plant to 225MW combined cycle power plant (Tk 9.10 billion).
