Ticket sale of BRTC Eid special bus service beginsThe Cabinet has cleared the draft of a new law that will provision for Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) buses to run during emergencies including strikes.
Under the draft for ‘Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Act-2019’ the bus drivers and their assistants will be considered government employees, Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam said while briefing the media on Monday (Sept 2).
Moreover, BRTC buses will also operate even during emergencies including strikes, natural disasters and Biswa Ijtema.
Alam said that until now BRTC was being run under the 1961 ordinance which has been drafted into a law following a court order.
Under the new law, the corporation’s authorized capital will be Tk 10 billon which was Tk 60 million previously.
Previously under the ordinance the paid-up capital was Tk 20 million but under the new law the new amount is yet to be set.
A total of 51 percent of the shares will be state-owned while the rest of the 49 percent will be private.
The new draft law also provisions the formation of a board of directors comprising of 24 members.
The board will convene at least four times a year and the meeting will be presided over by the board chairman.
