Dengue cases fall one short of 50,000 since Jan 1

SAZZAD HOSSIAN/File PhotoDengue cases show no significant sign of decreasing across Bangladesh as a total of 49,999 people have been infected with the mosquito-borne virus since Jan 1 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
As many as 1,719 new dengue patients had been hospitalised across Bangladesh over the 24 hours on Friday (Aug 16), taking the tally of admitted patients to 7,716, says DGHS statement issued on Friday (Aug 16).
Of those admitted, 4,015 patients are receiving treatment at 40 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas another 3,701 are outside the capital, the statement adds.
However, a total of 42,283 dengue patients have been released by their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment since Jan 1.
The DGHS says, 40 people have died from dengue across Bangladesh so far this year while the unofficial counts show the death toll at 95.
