Bangladeshis are among 75 Europe-bound migrants on a boat intercepted by Libya off the Mediterranean coast, according to media reports.
A rubber boat carrying migrants from Bangladesh, Morocco, Somalia, Algeria and Sudan was stopped Friday (Aug 2) some 110 kilometers west of the capital, Tripoli, Libya Spokesman Ayoub Gassim told an international news agency on Saturday (Aug 3).
The migrants were given humanitarian and medical aid before being taken to a detention center in the northwestern city of Zawiya, according to the official.
Libya is a major conduit for African and Asian migrants and refugees fleeing to Europe after the 2011 uprising that ousted and killed longtime ruler Muammar Qaddafi.
