Hospitals across Bangladesh are at breaking point with hundreds being admitted every day with dengue.
The number of patients is rising alarmingly with this being the worst outbreak to hit the country.
In the last 24 hours till, Thursday (Aug 1), over 1,700 patients were admitted in various hospitals that have run out beds and cabins and are treating patients at the corridors and even in the doctors’ offices.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday (Jul 31), the number of dengue cases all over the country was 1,477, while it was 1,300 on Tuesday (Jul 30) and 1,096 on Monday (Jul 29).
This year the mosquito-borne virus is more menacing as the symptoms are no longer rashes and high fever, say experts. Instead, patients are dying due to multiple organ failure caused by dengue shock syndrome, according to them.
The scenario at all the hospitals, especially in worst-hit Dhaka, is that of mosquito nets, patients with IVY drips at every corner, overtaxed doctors-staff and relatives whose faces are mired with worry, anxiety and pure exhaustion.
