The Election Commission will launch a pilot programme in December to include Bangladeshi-British citizens in the electoral role, said the Bangladesh High Commission in the UK.
The information came up at a meeting with the visiting delegation of Bangladesh Election Commission with the leaders of the Bangladeshi-British community, reports BSS.
The Dhaka mission organised the meeting on its premises in London on Sunday presided over by High Commissioner Saida Muna Tasneem, it said citing a statement.
The High Commissioner also said that the Bangladesh High Commission in London will provide all assistance to the Election Commission for all activities related to registration of voters.
At the meeting Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam elaborated about the registration procedure and distribution of national identity cards to the expatriate Bangladeshis. Leaders of different professions and classes of the Bangladeshi-British community participated in the meeting.
The Election Commissioner sought cooperation of the Bangladesh High Commission, leaders of different local organizations, representatives of various chambers and electronic and print media for providing an updated list of Bangladeshi-British citizens. Its online address is www.nid.gov.bd.
He said a technical team will visit UK in this regard in December this year.
