Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen says he has no knowledge about ground reality in Rakhine but hopes that Rohingya repatriation would begin before September.
“It’s my gut feeling,” he said at an interaction with media at his office on Wednesday (Jul 24).
The minister returned Dhaka earlier in the day following a six-day visit to England and Malta.
About the ground reality in Rakhine, he said, “We cannot go inside (Rakhine)”.

When asked would it be ‘eye-wash repatriation', he said, “I don’t think it would be an eye-wash. The process will start and I believe that.”
About the ongoing clash in Rakhine, Momen said, “It’s their problem. The insurgents there are fighting with their government.”
He said Myanmar repeatedly assured Bangladesh and the United Nations agencies are now allowed to work in Rakhine in limited scale.
Momen said, “We received assurance from almost everybody. That’s the reason behind my belief, but it completely depends on Myanmar.”
The minister said, “Myanmar (military) had driven them away and killed them mercilessly. That’s why Rohingyas are skeptical about them.”
Bangladesh through its friends informed Myanmar that they should work on removing this mistrust, Momen said.
