Power to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has been cut off during an eviction drive in the area, leaving the airport without no water or air-conditioning and causing the travelers great suffering.
Airport operations have nearly come to a stand-still since power went out on Sunday (Jul 21) after 8 am during an eviction drive by the railway authorities.
Partial operations at the airport are being run with generators and power back up, said sources.
Only terminal-1 is in operation with back-up while there is no power at terminal-2 and the domestic terminals.
The airlines’ are having to issue handwritten boarding passes as the computers are not operational and passengers are suffering in extreme heat due to most of the air conditioners not working.
“We are trying to contact PDB (Power Development Board) to get the power running again,” said Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh Chief Engineer Sudhendu Bikash Goshwami.
He added that power is likely to be restored in the next couple of hours.
