Malaysia will lift the moratorium on Bangladeshi workers within two months, says the country’s Human Resource Minister M Kulasegaran.
He made the announcement at a media call at Kula Lumpur at the Ninth International Planters Conference which took off on Tuesday (Jul 16).
On Sept 1, 2018, Malaysia scrapped the foreign workers application system for Bangladesh, putting a stay on worker recruitment.
However, the stay has negatively affected the industries especially construction and agriculture.
The minister said that the government approved agencies will be allowed to supply workers and pay the previous fee of more than Tk 400,000 for permit.
Expatriates Welfare Minister Imran Ahmed on his visit to Malaysia last week said that agreements to recruit workers are likely to be signed next month.
He said that the process will be more transparent and hoped for a solution within August.
