Bangladesh to brace for heavy rainfall till Sunday

“Heavy rainfall will occur in the next two days,” BMD’s meteorologist Abdur Rahman told Bangla Tribune on Friday (Jul 12).
“Rainfalls will, however, start to decrease by Monday (Jul 15) but won’t stop entirely,” said Rahman adding such downpour was normal during rainy session.
Due to active monsoon over Bangladesh heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions during next 24 hours ending 10am on Saturday (Jul 13),” said a met bulletin on Friday.
If rain is recorded between 44mn and 88mm is called heavy rainfall while very heavy rainfall is recorded at over 88mm.
“Light to moderate rain and thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country in the next 24 hours ending on Saturday as monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate over the North Bay, said a met office bulletin.

Due to very heavy rainfall landslide may occur at places over the hilly region of Chattogram division, said meteorologist AKM Ruhul Kuddus.
Meanwhile, inland river ports have been advised to host cautionary signal no. 1 as due to heavy rainfall as rain or thundershowers in association with gusty or squally wind at a speed between 45 kph and 60 is likely to occur over the regions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar And Sylhet, said met office.
