To ensure good governance at all levels of society, the five day long Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference will begin from Sunday (Jul 14) and run till Jul 18.
This time, the summit has been extended to five days instead of three in the past. Chief justice, speaker of the parliament, president and the prime minister will attend the summit.
The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday at Shapla Hall at the Prime Minister’s Office.
On Thursday (Jul 11) Cabinet Secretary, Shafiul Alam, highlighted several aspects of the summit to the media.
The government will want promise from the DC’s to add more impetus to development programmes. The DCs will be given special responsibility to reach government’s policy and ideals to the masses.
DC’s will also be given directives to spread the success of government projects to the people.
A directive will also be given to ensure that in such work, crop lands are not destroyed.
To get promotion there is the system under which government collects information of an officer from the intelligence agencies and the DC’s will want to be freed from the restriction of such reports.
A proposal in this regard has been submitted to the cabinet division.
The DCs will be given counsel by the prime minister and they will also take advice from the president. Senior government officials, including ministers, advisers and secretaries will be present to give direction to district level administrators.
DC’s will be advised to ensure that the general people are never deprived of government services. Other issues to be discussed include: strengthening rural economy, creating awareness against militancy, involving rural people into an anti-radicalism and anti-narcotics drive.
To swiftly settle drug related cases, DC’s have submitted a proposal to establish drug testing labs at all district towns.
After inauguration, the prime minister will take part in a discussion with DCs. In the following days, there will be sessions with senior civil servants and members of the judiciary.
The five day programme will end on Jul 18 with a meeting with the speaker of the parliament.
A source from the social welfare ministry says that special order will be given to implement the government programmes for the benefit of autistic and children with challenges.
The government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy in matters of drugs will also be stressed at the five day conference.
