Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the governance system in the country will be decentralised by the year 2041.
She made the remarks on Wednesday (Jul 10) during a question-answer session during the day’s Parliamentary session.
“A majority if the government’s fund will be implemented on the local stage. The local administration will take care of it,” she said.
She added that the whole project will be implemented through the local and central administration’s coordination.
Saying that the country’s economy was currently strong, she added that investment was steadily increasing and that there was good balance in foreign transaction against growth of import and remittance.
“Inflation is under control and the budget deficit is within five percent of GDP,” the premier said and hoped that Bangladesh will soon become a high-income country.
Hasina said that Bangladesh made it to the United Nations’ list of countries with maximum growth.
“According to the World Economic Outlook, April 2019 report, Bangladesh is one of the three countries to achieve fast economic growth.”
Citing the findings of the report, she said that Bangladesh’s growth is at 7.3 percent which is equal to that of India.
Responding to a question from Naogaon-2 lawmaker Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker, Hasina said that 12.9 million new jobs will be created amongst which 2 million will be for expatriates.
“Every year almost 2 million enter the labour market and its quite challenging to create jobs for such a large number of people,” she said.
She added that the public administration ministry has approved 65,545 posts amongst which over 59,000 have been cleared.
On another query from Gano Forum lawmaker Mokabbir Khan on her Japan visit, she said that the Japanese businessmen have praised Bangladesh’s good administration, political stability and the current government’s leadership.
