Regent Airways have suspended four of its employees amid an inquiry over allegations by Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder, who sought legal actions against the airlines for allegedly forced to travel on economy class despite having business class tickets.
Its Chief Operating Officer Ashis Roy Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune on Tuesday (Jul 9) that four suspended employees include purser, cabin crew and ground staff.
“We are probing the incident. Four people have been suspended following initial investigations,” he said.
Regent Airways is “extremely sorry” for the mistake and has taken the matter “very seriously”, said Chowdhury.
“We have been trying to get in touch with Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder for the past few days to apologise. But he is not responding,” he added.
Talukder had bought business class tickets of Regent Airways for himself and his wife to fly to Chattogram on Jun 27.
After boarding the plane, they found all the business class seats, including theirs, were filled when the airlines seated them in the economy class despite boarding passes with the VIP stamps.
In an unofficial note to the chief election commissioner on Jul 2, Talukder wrote the incident was not only a slight to an election commissioner but an affront to the entire body and urged to initiate lawsuit against private airlines.
