Persuade Myanmar to take back Rohingyas: Hasina to China

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with with Chinese envoy to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo at her Sangsad Bhaban office on Tuesday (Jun 25).Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the Chinese government to convince neighbouring Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas who have been driven into Bangladesh, reports BSS.
She made the call during a meeting with Chinese envoy to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo at her Sangsad Bhaban office on Tuesday (Jun 25), her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the media.
The premier was very firm over the issue saying that the Rohingyas must return home.
Meanwhile, the Chinese envoy pledged that Beijing will play “a constructive role in resolving the protracted Rohingya crisis,”
During the meeting, PM Hasina was invited to pay an official visit to China in the first week of July.
She has also been invited to attend the “Summer Davos” an annual meeting of the “New Champions” which will take place in Dalian on Jul 1st-3rd.
The PM will also have meetings with President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang during the crucial visit the first one following Awami League’s landslide victory in the national polls.

Both Hasina and Zou expressed satisfaction over the existing ties between the two countries and hoped that it will be stronger in the days to come.
The Chinese envoy said the Dhaka-Beijing relations reached a new height after the visit of their President Xi Jinping to Bangladesh in 2016.
On Dhaka-Beijing bilateral cooperation, Hasina mentioned that the construction work on Karnaphuli Tunnel in Chattogram is going on with Chinese support.
Knowing that a book on the China visits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be published, the Ambassador showed his country's interest to translate it into Chinese language.
In this regard, the Prime Minister urged the envoy to give the photographs on the visits of Bangabandhu, if they have any.
