The government has cleared a Tk 596.85 million expenditure for procuring sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for Upazila administration chiefs (UNOs.
In the first phase, 66 UNOs will get a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport QX SUVs worth Tk 9.03 million.
Rest of the UNOs will receive their vehicle in phases.
On Wednesday (Jun 19), a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved a proposal on the matter with Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak in the chair.
Additional Secretary of Cabinet Davison Nasima Begum briefed the media after the meeting.
Begum said that fund for the UNOs’ vehicles will come from this year’s budget.
“State-owned Pragoti Industries Limited will supply the vehicles,” she added.
Earlier on May 5, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave a policy approval on direct purchase of vehicles for UNOs from Pragoti Industries.
