Finance Minister AHM Mustafa KamalFinance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is presenting the budget for the 2019-20 fiscal at the Parliament on Thursday (Jun 13).
This is first budget to be delivered by Kamal who was handed the finance ministry's portfolio in January this year.
This is the country’s 48th national budget and it’s the 20th budget presented by Awami League administration in its five terms since 1971.
It’s the third session of the 11th parliament and the first budget session of the Awami League government which assumed office after a landslide victory in the December 30 national election.
According to a finance ministry media statement, this budget will be a ‘smart’ one with the title ‘Samridha Agamir Pathajatrai Bangladesh: Samay Ekhon Amader, Samay Ekhon Bangladesher.’
The budget is expected to be around Tk 5.23 trillion and is presumed to propose a number of well-fare oriented initiatives and reforms in the banking sector, capital market, savings certificates and social safety net programmes and generate employment.
Finance ministry officials said that the proposed budget would be 18.1 percent of expected GDP.
