National Parliament House of Bangladesh. BANGLATRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainFinance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is set to unveil the proposed national budget for fiscal year 2019-20 at the parliament on Thursday.
The finance minister is scheduled to begin his budget speech in the House around 3:00pm.
This year, the size of the budget will be around Tk 5.23 trillion.
The budget will be a ‘smart’ one with the title ‘Samridha Agamir Pathajatrai Bangladesh: Samay Ekhon Amader, Samay Ekhon Bangladesher’, said a media release by the finance ministry on Wednesday.
Before the budget pronouncement, it will be approved at a special meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the parliament complex.
It would be the third session of the 11th parliament and the first budget session of the Awami League government which assumed office after a landslide victory in the December 30 national election.
The budget will be the first of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, who took charge of the ministry in January this year.
“These are the interesting and acceptable things to the general people,” the ministry said in the statement.
Even if the targets in the budget are far-reaching there will be wholehearted efforts to attain them, it added.
“The budget will promise to turn the dreams of 16 crore people into reality. This is not a budget for just a single year; it has been prepared keeping in mind the far-reaching goals, including the 2041 goal.”
The parliament went into the budget session on Tuesday.
