Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BangladeshReshuffling is taking place at the ambassador level for the first time after Awami League came to power in January this year. The ambassadors in Iran and Lebanon are being brought back for immoral behaviour and financial irregularities.
A foreign ministry official says: “Two months ago, letters were issued to Bangladesh ambassador in Iran, AKM Majibur Rahman Bhuiyan and envoy in Lebanon, Abdul Motaleb Sarker.”
Prior to Iran, AKM Majibur Rahman Bhuiyan was also recalled for moral transgressions when he was ambassador in Japan. On the other hand, this is the first ambassadorial posting for Abdul Motaleb Sarker.
Bangladesh ambassador to Germany, Imtiaz Ahmed, investigated the allegations in Tehran while the Beirut probe was done by Bangladesh ambassador in China, Fazlul Karim.
Both submitted their reports; a professional diplomat has been appointed to Iran while process is underway to appoint a non-foreign service member to Lebanon.
