BNP`s Assistant International affairs Secretary Barrister Rumeen FarhanaAfter taking oath on Sunday (Jun 9), BNP nominated candidate for reserved seats to women, Barrister Rumeen Farhana, told the media, “I will be happy if my tenure as MP does not last more than a day because I want a participatory election as fast as possible and the formation of a government, representing the masses.”
Earlier in the day Rumeen took the oath at the office of speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.
After taking oath, Rumeen stated unequivocally: “This parliament is not an elected one. I called it illegal in the past and am saying it now.”
Responding to queries on why take oath if she finds this parliament illegal, she said “This is my democratic space; we can use the parliament to voice our grievances and our concerns and we need this space to talk about the people and the country.”
On Khaleda Zia’s release, she said: “Khaleda Zia has been prime minister on three terms and as per merit, age and social status, is entitled to an immediate bail; she has been denied bail and kept in prison, which is unlawful.”
Khaleda Zia is a victim of political vengeance and we shall raise the matter in parliament, observed Rumeen.
Relevant to mention, on 8 June, Saturday, there was a clash between two factions of BNP in Brahmanbaria over food for work programme. In the clashes, around 20 persons were wounded and communication on the Dhaka-Sylhet, Cumilla-Sylhet highway was snapped for one hour.
“I am not fully aware of the issue in Brahmanbaria but once I know the details, will be able to comment on it,” she said.
