The government has planned to build a ‘Ghrina Stambha’, a monument to express hatred towards collaborators of the Pakistan occupation force during the War of Independence in 1971, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq said.
“The Department of Architecture has already prepared the draft design of ‘Ghrina Stambha’,” Huq told the House on Tuesday (Jun 19).
The minister said, “The design will be finalised soon, followed by sending with the detailed project proposal (DPP) to the Planning Commission for approval.”
The government, however, has no plan to confiscate the properties of collaborators for now and to use it for the welfare of the people, Huq informed the House.
Replying to another query, the minister said, “An actual list of freedom fighters is underway and we are accepting hard copy and online application and verification committees have been formed at each upazila in this regard.”
The verification process is yet to finish, Haq added.
