Prothoma Prokashon has taken “1971: Bhetore Baire” (“1971: Inside and Outside") off the shelves a day after its author AK Khandaker apologised for propagating false information.
The publisher announced the withdrawal in a statement on Sunday (June 2) following author’s wish.
The deputy chief of staff of the Bangladesh Armed Forces during the Liberation War, Khandaker said on Saturday (June 1) that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not utter the words “Joy Pakistan” in his historic March 7 speech in 1971. Chief executive officer of Prothoma Zafar Ahmed Rashed told Bangla Tribune, “Prothoma believes the author should be given full control over his creation and that's why we are retracting the book."
The book “1971: Bhetore Baire” (“1971: Inside and Outside") was published in 2014.
