Australian Police have arrested a man on terrorism charge, who allegedly wanted to travel to Bangladesh to meet extremists.
Nowroz Rayed Amin was produced before Parramatta Court in New South Wales on Sunday morning under a criminal offence case, according to court website.
However, no further details are available on the website. Meanwhile, according to international media, the 26-year old has been charged with “terrorism offences”.
He was arrested on Saturday (June 16) after the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team conducted an investigation.
Nowroz Amin, an Australian citizen from Ingleburn, was trying to travel to Bangladesh in February 2016 but was stopped by the law enforcing agency.
When contacted, an official of the Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra, said: “we are yet to know the details,” adding, “we don’t even know whether he is a Bangladeshi citizen or not.”
“Today is Sunday, a holiday here, and we will try to get information about him from tomorrow”, he added.
“If he is an Australian citizen, then we have nothing to do here and will only concentrate on ‘Bangladesh travel’ issue.”
According to media report, he wanted to travel to Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh high commission official in Canberra further observed: “we want to know whom he wanted to meet in Bangladesh.”
