It was earlier announced that Liberation War Affairs Minister Mozammel Haque will represent Bangladesh in the ceremony, which, however, changed on Monday (May 27), several government sources confirmed.
Speaking to the media on Sunday (May 26), Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will not be attending the ceremony as she will be in Tokyo and it has been decided Mozammel will join.
In May 2014, following Modi’s election as prime minister for the first time, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury attended the inaugural ceremony as Prime Minister Hasina was abroad on a state visit then too.
