Jam packed Dhaka has taken a sparse look; reportedly, 1.5 crore people have left the capital, taking away the hustle and bustle that we are used to. Form one hand, this is a refreshing chance though an almost empty Dhaka is a little vulnerable from the point of security.
During the Eid holidays, burglary, mugging often see a hike. But this year, the government is extra careful. Police patrols have increased and security posts have been placed at different areas.
Extra police have been deployed around Uttara, Gulshan, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Adabor, Baridhara and other areas to prevent possible unlawful acts.
The known drug selling spots are also under surveillance.
Police operations will be carried out during Eid to prevent selling of narcotics, informed relevant authorities.
DMP deputy commissioner for Ramna, Maruf Hossain Sardar, told Bangla Tribune: “We have tightened security for Eid; police patrols have been raised.”
In a meeting held on June 11 last, DMP Commissioner, Asaduzzaman Mian, gave special instructions to police officers of all stations in the city.
He said: since a lot of people will be out of town, the police will have to be extra alert to prevent any crime.
He also advised placing Of CCTV’s at shopping malls, flats and financial institutes.
Acting OC of Adabor thana, S.M Kaosar Ahmed, also said that he had asked for CCTV monitoring in his area.
Meanwhile, acting OC of Mohammadpur thana, Jamaluddin Meer, assured that there would be extra patrols from Eid day; on the other hand, acting OC of Uttara thana, Nu e Alam Siddiqui, said: at the order of DMP Commissioner, we have taken extra measures to ramp up security.
We are keeping a sharp eye on the streets to prevent hijacking and mugging, he added.
