A general view of an anchored merchant vessel.Detained 11 Bangladeshi crew passed Eid day inside a vessel in Zamboanga port in Mindanao Island as they are not allowed to leave the ship.
All of them are safe and staying in the vessel anchored in a Philippines port and the authorities did not allow them to leave the ship, said an official who knows the matter.
Shipping agent of the crew and some other Bangladesh government officials visited them and provided them food and necessary items, he said.
It is expected that the Philippines authorities will submit their final report about the incident within a month and the matter will be resolved then, he added.
The Chinese ship was detained by the Philippines authority for trying to unload contraband items in the Southeast Asian country.
The vessel was trying to unload rice, which is a commodity banned as imports in the Philippines.
The incident took place in mid-April when the ship carrying rice from Vietnam was trying for an offshore unload and was challenged by the navy, a source familiar with the matter said.
When the ship tried to escape, it was detained with all its crew including the Bangladesh nationals.
