The foreign ministry wants a judiciary council to formulate standard of procedure (SoP) for running Bangladesh missions abroad.
This was proposed Sunday at a coordination meeting presided over by Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Delwar Bakth.
A foreign ministry official said, “We were asked to formally notify the cabinet secretary about our proposal and we will submit in due course of time.”
The meeting discussed about role of head of chancery (HoC), more than one bank account, use of cars, house rent for diplomats and other daily administrative affairs in a mission.
Another official said, “Many admin cadre officers object to the role of head of chancery and they have strong reservation about running the day-to-day affairs through HoC.”
He said, HoC is a post, not a person and diplomatic mission all over the world follow the same practice.
Another official said, “We explained them that it is not feasible to have more than one bank account in a mission.”
