Biman crash landing: Bangladesh to join inquiry with Myanmar

The Biman Bangladesh aircraft skidded off the runway while landing at the Yangon International Airport in Myanmar amid bad weather around 6.30pm (BdST) on Wednesday (May 9).

Bangladesh aviation investigators will join the Myanmar probe into Biman aircraft’s landing mishap in Yangon.

Myanmar’s Aircraft Investigation Branch (AIB) is opening an inquiry in to the incident on Wednesday when Biman’s one of the Bombardier Dash 8 skidded off the runway as it landed amid bad weather at the largest city in Myanmar.

Bangladesh’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Group (AAIG) has already written to join Myanmar’s AIB, AAIG chief Captain Salahuddin M Rahmatullah.

"They have responded to our letter. According to the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (Icao), representatives of the countries related in any airliners’ crash can be involved in joint investigation process. We will travel to Myanmar on Saturday (May),” he told Bangla Tribune.

Earlier on Thursday, Biman Bangladesh Airlines said it has opened an inquiry over the incident.

A six-member panel led by Captain Shoeb Chowdhury, chief of Biman’s flight safety, has been formed.

Around 18 people among the injured in the Yangon air bustle are being treated at a local Myanmar hospital confirmed Shakil Meraj Biman’s general manager (public relations) to Bangla Tribune on Thursday (May 9).
