The country’s one of the most key launch terminals, Sadarghat in Dhaka, has found empty as no water vessels were seen there on Friday (May 3) morning.
No launch services were started from the terminal and neither any arrived in the day. Any passenger was hardly seen while workers at the terminal were found idly passing time on Friday morning. When will be the situation become normal is uncertain as the entrance point of the terminal found locked.
This situation has been prevailing in Sadarghat since Thursday (May 2) when a ban was imposed over movement of water vessels as cyclone ‘Fani’ is likely to hit the country later on Friday.
The was imposed by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) since 11am on Thursday (May 2) as the authorities suspended water transport services on all routes across the country due to the very severe cyclonic storm.
The directive will be effective until further notice, said BIWTA Public Relations Officer Mobarak Hossain.
“All water transport services have been suspended due to cyclone ‘Fani’. No launch services were started from the Sadarghat terminal and neither any arrived,” said BIWTA Joint Director Arifur Rahman on Friday morning.
