Severe cyclone ‘Fani’ which has made landfall in Odissha is making its presence felt in Bangladesh with rainfall in several places country including Dhaka.
The cyclone, the strongest to hit Bangladesh in a decade is expected to make landfall in the coastal areas by Friday (May 3) midnight.
The weather office predicted rain throughout the day as a peripheral effect of the cyclone.“It has already started to rain in several places. The cyclone has already hit India’s Puri,” said weather expert Ashraf Uddin.
He added that ‘Fani’ will cross the Odissha coast by Friday evening and it will rain all across the country all day.
The weather office has forecasted heavy rain and strong wind speed of 80 to 100 km/hour while the storm passes over Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Potuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Bhola, Jhalokathi, Baherhat, Khulna and their offshore islands and chars.Storm surge of 4-5 feet height above normal astronomical tide is also expected in these areas due to the influence of the severe cyclonic storm and the new moon phase.
