At least 10 Bangladeshi workers have been killed and several others injured in a road crash in Saudi Arabia.
The incident was reported on Thursday (May 2) from Shaqraa, some 200 miles from the kingdom’s capital Riyadh, Deputy Chief of Bangladesh Mission in Riyadh Nazrul Islam told Bangla Tribune.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
A tyre of a microbus burst when the vehicle, carrying them, was heading to Medina via Riayadh from Dammam city, said Islam.
Five others, including two in critical condition, are being treated at the hospital while two others were released after first aid treatment, he added.
Bangladesh Ambassador Golam Moshi told state news agency BSS that the vehicle carrying 17 Bangladeshis fell into a “roadside deep ditch” after one of its tyres burst.
Moshi said mission officials have been sent to the scene from Riyadh, 200 miles away from the accident spot, to indentify the deceased and provide support to the injured.
The bodies of the dead Bangladeshis have been kept at the Shaqra hospital, online newspaper bdnews24.com reported quoting Fakhrul Islam, which it said was a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Embassy.
