Seven people have been killed in road accidents in three districts on Thursday (May 2).
In Lakshmipur, one person died and three others were injured when a truck hit a stationary autorickshaw at Temuhoni in the district town, in the early hours.
The crash left autorickshaw driver, identified as Dukhu Mia, killed.
According to police and witnesses, a Feni-bound truck, coming from Raipur, lost control and hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the side of the highway in Temuhoni area. Later, police and locals rescued the injured and admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Mia dead.
Police seized the truck, however, the driver and his helper managed to flee from the scene.
In southern district of Bagerhat, three passengers of a four-wheeler passenger vehicle ‘human hauler’ died and five others were injured when it collided head-on with a truck.
The crash was reported around 8am on the Khulna-Mongla Highway at the district’s Rampal Upazila.
“Mongla-bound truck collided head-on with the hauler and killed three people on the spot,” said Rampal police OC Lutfor Rahman.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the state-run hospital in Bagerhat town.
In Rajshahi, three people were killed and 12 others injured when a bus overturned at Mirganj Bazar in Bagha Upazila, around 7am, reports UNB.
The deceased have been identified Abu Hanif, 28, Manwara Begum, 42 and Badal Bewa, 65.
Police said the Rajshahi-bound bus collided head-on with a cargo trolley before it hit a tree and overturned.
“All three deceased were killed on the spot,” the report quoted Bagha police OC Mohsin Ali.
