Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the labour ministry to draft new wage structures for 42 sectors, said State Minister for Labour Begum Monnujan Sufian.
Her remarks came on Wednesday (May 1) during a program on the occasion of May Day in front of National Press Club.
Saying that the current government was labour-friendly, she added, “The garments sector increased the wages of the workers by Tk 1000 at the request of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
She said that there was a time when the workers led movements for safe working environment.
“The protest started in 1886 on this day,” she said and added that people were reaping the benefits of that protest today.
