Bangladesh-United States of America (USA)Dhaka wants to engage with Washington to ensure human security in Bangladesh.
The issue is expected to be discussed between the two countries in Dhaka Thursday when Director General at Foreign Ministry Ferdousi Shahriar and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Department Michael Miller will chair the seventh Bangladesh-US Security Dialogue.
“In the earlier dialogues, we discussed traditional security issues, but now we want to expand the horizon by including non-traditional ones,” said an official.
Securities related to food, energy, disaster management, climate change and others are extremely important for Bangladesh and Dhaka wants to flag it in the meeting, he said.
Rohingyas, defense trade, military cooperation including training, counterterrorism, countering violent extremism, pending agreements and memorandum of understanding as well as maritime security will also be discussed in the dialogue, said another official.
He said in the post Colombo terror attack scenario, counterterrorism cooperation will be strengthened in the coming days, he said.
“We will explain to them Rohingyas are vulnerable people and easy prey for terrorist outfits and Washington must help Dhaka to resolve the crisis as soon as possible,” he added.
Washington has proposed to sign several instruments and both the parties would review the progress, the official said.
