Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda was addressing a media briefing after inaugurating a workshop for election officials on electronic voting machines (EVMs) on Wednesday, June 6, 2018.Amid calls from the BNP for deploying troops in the local government polls, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda makes it clear that they will go for it only in the parliamentary polls.
“The army will be deployed in the national election, but not in the city corporation elections,” he told the media in Barishal on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a workshop for election official on electronic voting machines (EVMs), Huda sought political parties’ cooperation for an all-inclusive national election.
“We will not open any initiatives aimed to bring a specific political party to the election ... We expect the BNP to take part in the polls,” he said replying to a query.
The Election Commission is set to expand the use of EVMs after successful trials, said Huda. “We want to hold credible and fair elections and EVMs will play an important role.”
According to him, EVMs can fully address the issue of polls rigging.
