Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau will discuss on finding a solution to the extradition of Noor Chowdhury, a self-confessed killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Hasina is set to leave for Canada on Thursday (Jun 7) to take part in the G7 outreach session.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said Hasina and Trudeau are scheduled for talks on Jun 10.
“The prime minister will discuss the issue of bringing back Bangabandhu’s killer Noor Chowdhury.”
Chowdhury, a death row convict in the Bangabandhu assassination case, is now leading a fugitive’s life in Canada.
“The prime minister will also seek support on the Rohingya issue from the G7 nations,” said Foreign Minister Ali.
The Group of Seven or G7 is an informal bloc of the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Italy that meets annually to discuss issues like global economic governance, international security, and energy policy.
Besides the annual summit of G7 leaders, a meeting with other countries, known as the G7 Outreach, from outside the group is also held.
Hasina has been invited to the outreach session for a second time after the 2016 summit in Japan.
On Saturday, Trudeau announced in Ottawa that Canada will welcome several world leaders and heads of international organisations to the G7 Summit to take part in a special outreach session, which will focus on healthy oceans and resilient coastal communities. It will be held on Jun 9.
