Home minister assures jobs for firefighter Sohel's family

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. File PhotoThe government will try to arrange employment for any member of Banani firefighter Shohel Rana’s family if any of them are eligible to work, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
"Shohel Rana was the only earning member of his family. Therefore, the Fire Service, along with the government officials, will do everything we can to assist them,” he told media on Tuesday (Apr 9) at the Fire Service's headquarters after attending Sohel’s funeral prayers.
“The prime minister is also planning to aid the family," he added.
Kamal said that they did everything to help with Sohel’s treatment after he was injured while trying to rescue those who were trapped inside FR Tower during the Mar 28 fire.
“We admitted him to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and he got the best treatment there. Later, we sent him to Singapore for better treatment. However he died there,” he said.
The minister lauded the deceased fire service man saying that he put duty above other benefits and set an example.
The namaz-e-janaza of firefighter Shohel Rana has been held at the Fire Service`s headquarters on Tuesday (Apr 9).Shohel Rana from Kurmitola Fire Service and Civil Defence, sustained serious injuries on while rescuing people from Banani’s FR Tower fire, which claimed 26 lives and left many injured.
He provide let the rescued people stand on his ladder and got stuck when he was climbing down. The automatic ladder crushed his leg, causing internal damage to his stomach.
Critically-injured Sohel was taken to the CMH in Dhaka. On Apr 5, he was flown to Singapore by an air ambulance, for better treatment. However, he died while undergoing medical treatment at a Singapore hospital on Monday (Apr 8).
