Firefighter Sohel Rana, who sustained serious injuries during Banani FR Tower fire rescue operation, died at a hospital in Singapore.
Rana died at 2.17am (BST) on Monday (Apr 8) while being treated at the hospital, Fire Service and Civil Defence station officer Md Shohag told Bangla Tribune.
“One of our senior station officers was with Shohel Rana and informed us of the death of Rana,” said Shohag.
“The process has started to bring back the body to the country,” added the fire service official.
On Friday (Apr 5), Rana was airlifted to Singapore when his condition deteriorated while he was undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
Shohel Rana sustained serious injuries on Mar 28 while rescuing people from the Banani’s FR Tower fire that claimed 26 lives and left many injured.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their condolences over the death.
In a message, Hamid expressed profound shock at the sad demise of the firefighter, who sacrificed his valuable life to save others life during the deadly inferno.
He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
In a separate message, the prime minister said Rana would remain to be a glorious example of sacrifice.
