The government is planning to grandly celebrate Bangla New Year 1426 with colorful rallies and cultural programs in the capital as well as the districts, upazilas and unions.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced a series of programs for Pahela Boishakh in a media statement on Thursday (Apr 4).
Dhaka University’s Institute of Fine Arts will arrange the Mangal Shobhajatra, a colorful mass procession where the university students parade the brightly-coloured, hand-held masks besides other artifacts that they made, the statement said.
UNESCO declared the procession an intangible cultural heritage in 2016 and the national dailies at the government’s behest will feature it in their supplements.
Meanwhile, Chayanot will arrange cultural programs at Ramna Botomul which is an integral part of Pahela Boishakh celebration. The programs will be telecast live.
All the private and state-owned TV channels and radio channels will broadcast special programs.
The local administration will organise quiz competitions, cultural programs and fairs in their respective regions.
The government will arrange for traditional Pahela Boishakh food in the prisons, hospitals and orphanages.
The prisons will arrange for cultural programs for the inmates in addition displaying the many products that they made themselves.
The museums will be open to everyone and students, children and special needs children will be able to enter without a ticket.
The government will also tighten security in public places in order to avoid any untoward incident. Wearing masks during the Mangal Shobhajatra has also been forbidden by the home ministry.
