Dhaka South City Mayor Sayeed Khokon has asked the fire department to ascertain whether the recent fires in the capital were acts of sabotage, reports UNB.
His call came on Saturday (Mar 30) while addressing a discussion on safe chemical management at the DCCI auditorium Dhaka, says the news agency.
Khokon urged businesses to remain alert whether anyone is staging such incidents following their misunderstanding or infighting, according to the UNB report.
He urged the fire service chief to take necessary measures in line with the business community’s demand for a fire station at the city’s Babu Bazar.
Highlighting Old Dhaka businesses’ contribution to the national economy, Khokon assured of a monitoring mechanism for smooth business operation.
“It’ll be monitored so that traders can operate their businesses without any hazard. We must remain alert. No business will be allowed at the cost of human lives,” the UNB report quoted the Dhaka South mayor saying.
