Banani fire death toll rises to 26

Abu Hena Mostofal Kamal died on Saturday (Mar 30) while being treated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, says the control room of the Directorate of Health.
According to the government agency, a total of 33 people are now being treated of injuries sustained during the fire at the ‘FR Tower’ building at different hospital.
Firefighters have rescued as many as 130 people who were trapped in the blaze-hit building, it said.

Meanwhile, a case has been started over the fire.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) chief Asaduzzaman Mia told the media that the case was lodged with the Banani Police Station.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating one-way traffic system at Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar, DMP Commissioner Mia said, “Anyone found responsible after the investigation, will have to face justice.”
The fire, which broke out at 22-story commercial building in the upscale Banani area, has left 25 killed and more than 70 people injured.
Firefighters, who were joined by members of the army, navy and air force, battled for nearly six hours to put out the flames.
The high-rise building fire comes at the wake of another recent fire in February, when a fast-moving fire swept across several buildings at Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar killing 70 people.
