President, PM mourns loss of lives in Banani fire

In a condolence message, Hamid conveyed sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.
The head of the state asked all concerned to stand by the injured persons and bereaved families of the deceased and wished early recovery of the injured.
PM Hasina also condoled at the loss of lives in the fire.

Karim said the premier wished early recovery of the injured and asked the authorities concerned to ensure their proper treatment.
“Being informed about the blaze at the FR Tower in Banani, the prime minister immediately asked the armed forces and law enforcement agencies to work in coordination with fire services to extinguish fire and conduct rescue operation,” the press secretary said.
Ihsanul Karim said the prime minister is always maintaining contact with the authorities concerned about the rescue drive and proper treatment of the injured.
At least 19 people have died and nearly 70 others injured after a fire broke out at the 22-storey ‘FR Tower’ on the Kamal Ataturk Avenue in the upmarket commercial area in Dhaka’s Banani
The fire broke out on the eighth floor of the building on Banani Road 17 around 1pm and spread to other floors soon after.
Firefighters brought the flame under control after nearly six hours of frantic effort.
Over 22 fire units battled to tame the flames and rescue people, who were later joined by members of the army, navy and air force.
