The government is planning to procure 1.25 million tonne of rice and 50,000 tonne of wheat in the upcoming months.
Food Minister Shadhan Chandra Majumder told the media on Thursday (Mar 28) that they will purchase 1 million tonne of parboiled rice, 150,000 tonne of sunned rice and 150,000 tonne of paddy.
He said each kilogram of parboiled rice will be procured at Tk 36, sunned rice at Tk 35 and paddy at Tk 26. The wheat will be purchased at Tk 28 per kilogram.
“The rice will be procured from Apr 25 to Aug 31 and wheat between Apr 1 and Jun 30,” he said.
Responding to queries from the journalists, he said, there is nearly 1.3 million tonne of rice and 161,000 tonne of wheat in the government’s food stock.
He added that last year, the government procured 900,000 tonne of rice and 150,000 tonne of paddy last year alone.
