The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has handed death sentence to five war criminals from Netrokona upon for war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.
The three-member tribunal, led by its Chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam, gave the verdict on Thursday (Mar 28).
The convicts are Sheikh Md Abdul Mazid alias Majid Maolana, Abdul Khalek Talukder, Kabir Khan, Abdus Salam Beg and Nur Uddin.
Mokhlesur Rahman Badal and Sabina Yeasmin Munni served as prosecutors while advocate Gazi HM Tamim argued for the accused, on the direction of the state.
On Jan 28, the tribunal kept the verdict waiting, after the counsels of both sides wrapped up their closing arguments.
On May 22, 2016, seven people were charged with murder, abduction, rape, arson, looting, and torture during the Independence War.
One of the accused, Ahammad Ali, died in prison after being arrested and another accused Abdur Rahman, died during the court proceedings.
