Twelve more alleged drug traders were killed in reported shootouts in the first hour of Tuesday amid anti-narcotic drives of law enforcers across the country.
Of them, two were killed in Cumilla, Jashore and Kushtia respectively and one each in the capital Dhaka, Mymensingh, Brahmanbaria, Satkhira, Barguna, and Thakurgaon districts.
Dhaka
An alleged drug dealer named Suman, alias Khuku Suman, was killed in a ‘shootout’ with police on Monday midnight at Dakkhinkhan thana in the capital.
Three police personnel, injured in the gunfight, have been rushed to Tangi General Hospital, said sources.
Nur Alam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (North), confirming the news to Bangla Tribune said, “Acting on a tip-off that a group of drug dealers have gathered at Asian City area, police conducted a raid. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the miscreants opened fire on them. Police also fired back in retaliation, forcing the drug dealers to retreat.”
After they fled, police recovered Suman’s bullet-injured body along with a revolver and 300 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets.”
Suman was a top drug dealer of Dakkhinkhan thana, he added.
Cumilla
Two suspected drug traders—Liton alias Kana Liton, 43, and Baten, 34, of Muradnagar Upazila were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Gunjar area around 12:30 am on Tuesday.
Police recovered a pipe-gun and 400 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot, said AKM Manjur Alam, officer-in-charge of Muradnagar Police Station.
Three policemen were injured during the incident, he added.
Kushtia
Two ‘drug traders’ Mukaddes Ali, 42, and Fazlur Rahman alias Title, 48, were killed in ‘shootout’ with police in Shehala field area of Daulatpur Upazila around 3:30 am on Tuesday.
Police recovered a pistol, five round bullets, a magazine and 250 bottle of Phensidyl from the spot, said Azgar Ali, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur police station.
Jashore
Two alleged drug traders Manik and Asir were killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of drug traders in Chanchra Raipara area in the town around 3 am.
Being informed, a team of police went to the spot and recovered the bullet-riddle bodies, Sub Inspector Manjurul of Kotwali Police Station.
They also recovered two pistols, five round bullet shells and two packets of Yaba tablet, police said.
Thakurgaon
A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Thakurgaon on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Shitolpur area of Haripur upazila in the early morning, said Ruhul Kuddus, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station.
The deceased was identified as Harun, 45.
“Drug peddlers opened fire at police when the law enforcers raided the Shitolpur area. Police replied with fire and Harun caught in the crossfire”, said Ruhul.
Harun was accused in several cases filed with the police station, he added.
As many as four alleged drug traffickers have been killed in the anti-drug drives in the district since May 23.
Mymensingh
A suspected drug trader Mizan, 45, was killed in a reported gunfight with police around 2:10 am on Tuesday.
Ashiqur Rahman, the OC of the district police said law enforcers recovered 100 gram heroin, three bullet shells and a machete from the spot.
Mizan was accused in nine cases including drug and robbery, he added.
Brahmanbaria
Jony Mia, 30, a ‘drug trader’ and accused in eight cases, was killed in a so-called gunfight between two groups of drug trader in Khalajora area of Akhaura municipal around 3am.
On information, police recovered the body and a pipe gun, a cartridge and sharp weapons from the spot, said Mosharaf Hossain, OC of the Akhaura Police Station.
Satkhira
Anisur Rahman, an alleged drug dealer was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Pilapul field under Deyara union in Koloroa Upazila around 2 am on Tuesday.
Biplab Kumar Nath, the OC of Koloroa Police Station, said Anisur was accused in 10 cases and a listed Yaba trader.
Police recovered a one shooter gun, two round bullets and 70 Yaba tablets.
Barguna
Another suspected drug trafficker Firoz of Betagi Municipality was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Kumrakhali village in Kajirabad union on Tuesday.
RAB seized 250 Yaba pills, 900 gram of cannabis and firearms from the scene, said Betagi Police Station OC Mamunur Rashid.
