The Ruqayyah Hall student who sued 40 people, including DUCSU VP-elect Nurul Haque Nur, for allegedly attacking the hall provost, says she is not an activist of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
“I am not affiliated with BCL. I started the case as our rights were violated and to ensure justice,” Dance Department student Marzuka Raina said.
Hours after polls to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) closed on Monday (Mar 11), Raina lodged the case with the Shahbagh Police Station.
“Voting at Ruqayyah Hall was continuing smoothly, but Nurul Haque Nur barged in along with some others and created ruckus. I was there along with several others and we were harassed by them,” she said.
Nur and the others with him “misbehaved” with Hall Provost Zeenat Huda, she claimed before adding, “What they had done is totally unacceptable … It seemed that they would have assaulted her [provost].”
Tension mounted at Ruqayyah Hall and Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall in the morning of Monday upon discovery of stashed away ballot papers.
Voting was deferred at the two halls by several hours following demonstrations by students over alleged ballot paper forgery.
Ruqayyah Hall Returning Officer Farhana Ferdousi was relieved of her duty.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune on Tuesday (Mar 12), Raina said that she was not an activist of BCL.
“You can cross check. Those who have claimed it do not know me. I am a student of the hall who seeks justice for vandalism, ballot-snatching and harassment of the provost,” she said.
Leftist panel's vice president candidate Liton Nandi and general candidate Umme Habiba Benozir , Chhatra Dal GS candidate Anisur Rahman Khandaker Anik, Ruqayyah Hall independent VP aspirant Sheikh Mousumi have been also accused in the case filed on Monday night.
